Wan Optimization
Hello,
Am looking for a solution to be able to do effective WAN optimization for an organization with an headquarters and 2 branches. The have an email server in-house, web server, active directory/DNS and other port specific apps running. The branches are dispersed and use VSAT links to connect to the HQ and the internet. The primary needs of the branches (which hav more emphasis in this setup)is to be able to send and receive mails (using the KerioMailserver @ HQ), link to the applications, do Active-Directory and name resolution at ease or near-ease.
What am looking at is using a bandwidth component like IMQ on servers at the branches to shape their traffic through prioritization of protocols and ports over one another so that the most needed gets faster to the HQ than others then probably direct http,https and other web-related and secondary traffic mainly internet through their squid boxes also running IMQ on them pegged to a specific bandwidth say 64k which is quite ok for them so as to minimize delays and stress on the IMQ gateway.
The IMQ configurations will be in order of priority using iptables to channel them out wch might be extensive depending on their needs.
Pls if someone has a better and more self-syled solution i wont mind or has done this before, i wont mind hearing it. Another headache is being able to contain all this backend stuffs into a front end like a web-enabled front end where the non-linux admins can change and admin so that they can have some control on their ends.Like DJBdns has something like VegaDNS. Something like that since we can do the hard stuffs. is a PHP-based fork good enough.
I will be humbled to find suggestions
