I have a netwrok of 4 computers. 1 windows 2000 server 1 windows 2000 pro and win98 and Linux. The Server is setup to run as PDC, DHCP, WINS and DNS and address for all is 192.168.227.1. The domain name is set to SERVER. When I login from W2K everything is fine. But when I login from Win98 it says 'No domain to validate your password' but still let me use the some internal portion of the networking. The other thing is when I use the Linux to connect everything seems fine except it doesn't connect to internet. I did an ifconfig -a and the ETH0 has ip, net mask and hardware address all assigned proprely. Can I use a Win2k server as a gateway/router to the internet for my linux and win98?
What domain model did you choose when setting up your domain controller? There is one that supports Win 2000/XP only and one that supports Win 9x/NT/2000/XP.
Yes you can use a Win 2000 server as a router/gateway. I believe you can do it through admin tools/routing and remote access.
Where can I get the Domain model at.
I have a full linux network server running dhcp/dns/http/ftp/samba/nfs/ but I would like to get the server to be the domain controller so you have to logon to the network domain and that then sets your profiles for the windows machines/ and linux to login. Is there a place for me to see an example of how to make the my linux server a network domain and authentication server
Here is a link that I found quite a while ago about setting up a PDC and a BDC. It is a little dated but I like it. I have never setup a PDC using Samba since we are a MS only network at work. http://www.skippy.net/linux/
