vsftpd on Fedora 4 - empty/incomplete directory listings

I am running vsftpd to serve some files over anonymous FTP. In general, it works fine; I am serving files out of /var/ftp. However, some files do not appear, either when logged in as anonymous or as my normal user account. I have checked the permissions already, and my FTP client is gftp.

This seems like it should be a real simple problem, but this one's got me stumped :| If any more information would be helpful, I'll be glad to post it.
