I used on my RedHat 9.0 box vsftpd, without any problem (I followed the configuration manual & examples & it works fine), but when I try it on Debian 3.1 it returned me "authentication failure". I think that there is a pam authentication bug on Debian [this is only my IMHO;-] (I read one bug report on "lists.debian.org" about this problem).

My questions:

Do you, anybody run vsftpd on Deb 3.1 distro?
(Please guys, let me know if anybody configured & run vsftpd fine on Deb 3.1.

If previous question is false(0, which ftpd(aemon) is the best choice (secure enough & easy to configure) for the Deb distro [proFTPd, pureFTPd, ...]

I run vsFTP on Debian sarge - I'm guessing you just did an 'apt-get install vsftpd'?

I recall a problem I had with authentication. Look at the log file I've posted below -

1st I thank you for your support
2nd I will try, this vsftpd.conf. The orginal(vsftpd examples) or customized(RedHat 9) config file don't worked for me with pam authentication in my Debian 3.1 But your config has 2 interesting rows (which doesn't include the orginal/customized config):

pam_service_name=vsftpd
rsa_cert_file=/etc/ssl/certs/vsftpd.pem
