Question vsftp behind a adsl modem

Hello,

I am trying to run vsftpd behind an ethernet adsl modem.
So the server is running in private address space.

The adsl modem is forwarding everything to the server anex firewall.

If you start up a remote ftp session, ie from outside our network to the server, it advertises the internal private address space ip number.
so when i try to build a data connection it complains with no route to host.

I would like that it advertises the name of the adsl modem or should i
advertise the ip number of the modem in the listen address configuration?

Stnx in advance,
Cees.

I think I understand the question, but not your setup.

My adsl modem is connected to a Linksys router.

My router has a static IP address. It is also a DHCP server, the machines behind it get a 192.168.1.xxx address.

vsftpd is on a machine with the IP address of 192.168.1.102. All ftp requests are made to my static IP address (64.81.xxx.xxx), my router does a port forward to the 192.168.1.102 machine and everyone is happy.

So, I would think that the solution to your problem would be to set up port forwarding in your router or firewall.
