vpnc working under Virtualbox under Windows but not on Linux host

Hello,

Our company uses a customized vpnc (based on and almost the same as vpnc 0.5.3). I first tested it on a Windows host under Virtualbox everything works straight away. But when I want to use it on a Linux host directly it always ends in "No response from target". I have tested this on Fedora 12 and the latest Ubuntu.
I thought of firewall settings but iptables -L on Ubuntu returns an empty list even.
Anyone has an idea what else it might be? Thank you in advance.

One idea is firesstarter. If you installed something like that it can be head pain. At system start it can show error that it can't start. Working you realize something not working. Turn it off in GUI.....

If I remember correctly vpnc uses SSL. Maybe wrong version to use in configuration. Maybe even this is coerect for you http://blog.fekw.de/2008/07/02/kubun...h-ssl-support/

Thank you for the suggestions. Unfortunately I do not have firestarter installed on any of the systems I tested. The vpnc executable is a custom built and works fine for other people and for me on Fedora and Ubuntu under Virtualbox so I don't think rebuilding it could solve the issue.

What puzzles me is that I have used the same installation CD for both Fedora and Ubuntu to install the version under Virtualbox and as master stand alone but the behavior when running the application is different. This makes me think that networking under Virtualbox is somehow different - probably because of the GuestAddition installed? But what is exactly different? So frustrating ...
