VPN on Slackware 9.1
 

I am newbie on Linux OS, but i want to install VPN on my machine. I am using Slackware 9.1. Could you tell me what software do i need and how to install it.

First of all, why you need to establish a VPN connection? Is this for getting to your PC from a distanced connection? Setting up a VON connection, can be tricky if you don't know what you want...

I want VPN to access the internet. My ISP is changing the IPs. Before we so called "real Ip numbers". I know how to install VPN on Win Xp, but i dont know how to do it on Slackware.

So you want VPN (virtual Private networking) ? Are you sure that is what you need? One wouldnt use vpn to access the internet. You use VPN to access your local network through public channels, ie, the internet, or dialing into your home lan. So it needs to be encrypted fo security. That why the call it virtual PRIVATE networking. Now if your ISP is changing IP addresses, then that means they will be using DHCP, that will give you a dynamic IP address. Im going to assume that your requesting help on how to access your lan even though you have a dynamic ip address. In order to do that you need to setup a dyndns account, and install the client into linux here is a link to the page www.dyndns.org

Maybe you only need to set your network settings to Dynamicaly obtain an IP address, so you can access Internet. If it is so simple, try not to mess with setting VPN, unless it is for educational proposes ;)

I'm really sorry about my bad English. About the changing IP addresses i ment that before the IPs were 212.72.*.*, atm the IPs are 192.168.*.*, So i connect via VPN to access the I-net. So if i dont connect via VPN i wont have i-net.
But anyway.
I've found a VPN archive (tar.gz) but i dont know how to install it.
It is pptp.
If there is someone who know how to install it, lets write here in the forum everything about it (how to compile the files, if it is neccessary how to patch the Kernel and so and so.

Well... i've read few instructions how to setup VPN, but i've got and error:
Password: couldn't open /etc/ppp/chap-secrets: Permission denied at ./pptp-command line 345, <STDIN> line 6.

It comes when i am at pptp-command--->Setup--->Manage CHAP Secrets--->Add a New CHAP Secret, after i write my password.

Is there someone who can tell me how to fix it, or what i haven't already done?
