VNCserver
I just noticed something weird happening today. I've been logging into my Linux box remotely using vncserver. When I logged in today, my roommate came running to my room and said "YOUR COMPUTER IS MAKING SOUNDS ALL BY ITSELF!!!" Yeah, when I logged in remotely, my linux box played MY KDE login sound on IT's speakers. Weird. So I tried running XMMS on my remote X session, and sure enough, the sound was playing out of my other computer. I have done some searching, and I haven't found anything about sound and VNC. Since I hadn't heard anything before, I just assumed that sound was disabled using VNC, but obviously it's not. It there a way to pipe the sound ALONG with the video to my remote session? Or should I just disable the sound for remote logins?

VNC doesn't support sound by itself. I beleive that arts is capable of delivering sound over the network so maybe as a combination it will work.

There were a lot of google hits about having fun with remote sound though, especially if your roomate has a friend over kind of thing... R.O. |
