VNC Server to work on Mandrake 10 Linux

I have Tight VNC Server installed on a brand new workstation with Mandrake 10.

Here is the Problem:
==============
1) I can't seem to connect to the Mandrake 10 Linux box with the VNC client from my Windows box.

Here are the facts:
=============
a) It is behind a router and ping-able by my Windows Box
b) The Firewall is Off
c) The services Window in KDE shows VNC Server as running

Do I have to install or configure anything else to get it to work?

Thumbs up

Okay, I figured out a few things:
=======================

1) On the server, you have to type vncserver :1 <--session # (or whatever session number you want) in the console to get it going.

2) On the computer with the viewer, you have to enter the IP of the server *plus* the session #. So for example:

192.18.2.3:1 <-- Adding the one from above did the trick.

BUT, when I open the viewer, all I see is a blank blue screen with "name's X desktop" on the top border.

So here's the new Problem:
====================

a) How do I configure it to see my desktop in KDE? Icon's and stuff.

b) Does anyone know how to automate step 1 (vncserver :1)

UPDATE
======

I updated my windows box VNC Client to the latest version and got it working.

However, when I connect, it gives me a *new* X- windows session using ICE WM instead of KDE. I does not give you the same session that is running on the box - like windows....interesting. I can work with that though.

So the new question is:

1) How do I update the default session to be KDE?
2) Can VNC control the session that is currently running on the server desktop?

You need to edit your ~/.vnc/xstartup

so do this all you need to do is

vim ~/.vnc/xstartup

and make sure the last line says

#!/bin/sh

[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
startkde &

MOSTLY like your default script is
#!/bin/sh

[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
twm &

so just change twm to startkde
so if you have vncserver running kill process

and rerun vncserver....
CHEERS....
