VNC problem

I have a Linux file server (Mandrake 9.1) running Gnome sitting in a network closet with no keyboard and mouse, I use Win32 VNC viewer to access from my W2K desktop so I can setup cron jobs, start Mozilla to download files etc. Most of the stuff I want to do works fine except when try to launch kwrite or kate, all I got is opening screen flashes and disappears.

I also cannot view any text file in Nautilus, when I click "Open" all I get is "Application "nautilus-text-view" (process 1901) has crashed
due to a fatal error.
(Floating point exception)"

Seemed to me the system does not know where to display..

I launch the vncserver in a linux command window "vncserver :1"
Then I use vncviewer with 192.168.1.xx:1 to launch from W2K desktop to access Linux server

Please help.. Thanks

Per the forum rules, please pick the most appropriate forum to ask your question and only post it once. It seems that this problem is more of an issue with X than with the actual networking, so I'm going to leave your thread that's already in the software forum and you can continue the discussion there. I'll paste your latest info over there as well.
