Sound in vnc

As far as sound in vnc goes, I havent been able to get it to work...
However, if you are desperate there is another way which I use.
I have 2 skype accounts.
the remote computer has a lead going from the headphone output to the mic input.
I vnc into the remote computer, open up skype, and make it call my local computer.
I accept the incoming call on the local computer.
Voila, all the sound that comes out of the remote computer, goes through the headphone jack, straight back into the mic jack, and then through skype, which is transfered to my local computer

The quality is actually better than I expected.
but there has gotta be a better way.
