vnc connection config

hi, i have two mandrake boxes connected one a old 160mhz p1 running MDK 10 CE and the other a larger 1,7mhz box running MDK10.1 CE. They are connected cause i have samba set up and they can ping each othere just fine.

problem is that I can't seem to connect the old machine to the newer one using tightvnc , converseley it works just fine. I start up the server on the "big" box using RFDRAKE's "allow a connection to this linux box" and using a console i type vncviewer on the slower machine, it asks for a ip address, it gives me something like this:

unable to connect : connection refused by host

(sorry, the problem is at home, right now i am at work so i cant give the exact info)

I read on the forums that i should try to connect to the vncserver from the vncviewer on the same machine to see if the server is running.Does this matter cause i can't seem to connect to the old machine using telnet(actually both ways don't work), same sorta output:

connection refused by host

is there a list of hosts allowed to connect that should be edited somewhere?

I also dual booted into windows and then it works just fine, so its not a speed of the smaller box or anything like that...

help please...

some kind of firewall on your box?
check if your vncdaemon is started (/etc/init.d/... or whereever it is under mandrake) or
#ps -eff|grep <vncdaemon>

i had shorewall runnning for some reasn , never installed it myself, but turned that off. before i couldn't ping the big box, after i shutdown shorewall, i was okay , linneighbourhood works fine, can see all shares both pc's,

i can connect to the little pc just fine, so does this mean that the vncdaemon is working fine?

Could it be the difference in the X's on the different boxes, like 10 uses X11... and 10.1 uses Xorg ?Don't actually think this os the problem...
