VLAN--Can I still have main NIC interface ip'd

so eth2=10.0.1.1
I set up eth2.1 and eth2.2 with their own ip addresses.
Do I have to remove the ip information from eth2 or can this main nic
card still have an ip information

so eth2=10.0.1.1
eth2.1-10.1.1.1
eth2.2=10.2.1.1

and use these three interfaces (one real and two virtual) at the same time.

thanks

should've checked this in my vm before posting here. The answer is yes. you can use the original interface together with the virutal interfaces.

Don't quote me but I believe you can though generally you wouldn't have three subnets on the same physical network. But anyways the VLANing is done via software up at layer 3 in the networking stack, this means that it's the same level that you assign the IPs to it at, and it will get sorted out.

Oops I just read your edit, I guess you verified my hypothesis all on your own.
