Virtual networks

Not sure if it has been asked before but...

Been trying to get 1 network card connected to 3 networks on 1 physical wired network.
To do this I will need to use a virual network card such as the eth0:1 etc. But I am using Shorewall and they are unable to use aliasing like that, only through the "IP" command. Because I am unsure how to make it work is why I ask for your help.

Could anyone please tell me how to create the virtual networks with the ip command, and get it loading on startup?

Thanx for your help

PS Using Debian
