Viewing ethernet activity using a MAC address

Hi guys

How can i talk to my NIC using the MAC address in slackware 11. This is just for educational purposes, i would just like to see what is going on.

Good luck! My guess is using something like promiscuous mode from another ethernet device, but using the MAC address... not sure.

Cool

what do you actually want to achieve? you can see mac level data, i.e. OSI layer 2 stuff with tcpdump / wireshark, but the tcp/ip stack is there to abstract mac addresses out of your hair in terms of programming and such.

i honestly don't know what that means... controlling a nic remotely? what do you expect a nic to do?

Well i just want to know how to hack ok........im sorry if i didn't make sense in my last post, but i figured if it's possible to get control of a router or NIC using the MAC address from another computer other than my own.
