View local logged in user
 

I need a way to see and interact with the local logged in user. The same way that VNC does on a M$ box in how they share the same desktop. When using VNC it gives a different desktop. I have always liked that way better but I need to view, monitor, and interact with a locally logged in user that is using a scanner on the workstation but has no keyboard or mouse. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks.

Is this not possible in Linux. Surely there is some way to do this?

Yes, I do know Google. Thanks for the sarcasm. I was asking if anybody KNEW of a way to do this. The link you posted does nothing and I have already been to GNOME's site. Sharing the desktop isn't specifically mentioned in the same way the KDE desktop sharing tool works (by the way, thanks for that link). If you go back a directory on the link you posted, and follow the information link it specifically states:

a remote shell
a remote desktop
a network information tool

It doesn't state desktop sharing like KDE does. No one on the GNOME board has responded either and I have posted on other boards and only responses for KDE. I appreciate your help but I am researching this as well too. I was just hoping that someone KNEW how to do this. I will most likely just use KDE at this point.

Just tried to help you a bit... Sometimes it's hard to see if your're a Guru or a Newbie, but usually when somebody asks if "the same exist for GNOME ?" it's because of a lack of research.

Obviously it is not your case :)
