Vhost problem

i have a server colocated at a university.
It's Running redhat 8.

Network specifications
- server gets his IP from a dhcp server (allthrough the IP is allways the same , it's still a dynamic one)
- server's hostname (from the DHCP server) is something like s3453453.host.com

i have a domain, domain.com to which i have complete access to the zonefile.
I made an entry in the zonefile to point it to the IP of the server

now , www/ftp traffic etc. all works through my domain domain.com , but when i connect to irc i am :

user@s3453453.host.com

eg: uses the dhcp assigned host

but i want to use the domain.com

i tried , "hostname domain.com" in the console but that didn't seem to help

nevermind.... stupid question

it's probably due to the reverse DNS lookup.

domain.com WILL resolve to the right ip,
but the ip will resolve to the s345345345.host.com domain and not domain.com
