Well, if you are getting speeds that are considerably slower than what your isp advertise I would phone them up and bitch.

To my knowledge, there isn't really any configuration issues on your local box that could be limiting your bandwidth.

Maybe it's crusty networking hardware.

In any event we can't really help you much unless you elaborate on your setup a bit more. ie: network, hardware, distro etc etc.....

Hi,
if you are using a modern 2.6.x
kernel make sure you are not loading ipv6.
assuming it's compiled as module is will be in lsmod when connected to internet
if it's loaded.
Pass the word on this one cause no isps are serving DNS using ipv6 but are using ipv4 still.
Loading up ipv6 causes one failed DNS connection for evey lookup before fallback to ipv4 *ARGH*
to stop it loading put
in /etc/modprobe.conf
alias net-pf-10 off
and reboot

I'll stop the IPv6

to elaborate more

Fresh install of Manrake 10 two days ago..

I have tried Static IP.. that seems to connect for like one minute but very slow then nothing.. Then all computers connected on the router loose their connections.
DHCP works better,, it doesn't loose the connection if I start a ping and let it go.. but still teh 5.5mbit connection seems like a 14.4kbps connection

As far as a crappy connections.. Nope.. On my XP machines I get 5.5mbit.. so the connections are not the problem.

OK.. so far I did that and no go..

I ran the network config and now when I boot up I get

eth0 FAILED
