Very Slow Internet

I thought maybe I'd share an experience I've had lately with terrible Internet speed. I hope this may be of good use to someone out there.
The web pages would take forever to load, if they did load at all and the email was not downloading at all most of the time.

I did some local trouble shooting and came up with this....

1. It was not a distro problem, tried other distros which I have loaded up and also tried knoppix livecd.
2. It was not a linux problem as my daughter had the same issue with windows on her machine.
3. It was not my computer as I had the same problem with several computers.
4. It was not the cable modem, I switched that out and proved it worked else where.
5. It was not a router problem, I took that and the switch/hub out of the loop with no difference.
6. It was not bad cables (locally) as a tech replaced everything from the pole up to and including the cable splitter.
7. Got another tech in here today and he said the signal strength was quite low,
so he put a Multimedia Drop Amplifier 5-42/54-1000MHz Active Return inline before the modem.

That did it!!!! I noticed an immediate difference in the speed that every web page loads up.
I realize that doesn't actually correct the problem but I'll take it.

Here are some ping results before the fix with very high packet loss.
Code:

surfing the net and smiles all around.
