Using two RPi to VPN two networks together. Need a big picture.

So my parents have a plain old cable connection at their house and the supplied router only has one LAN subnet.

Can someone give me a BIG PICTURE on how I can use an RPi with OpenVPN (behind their router) to connect their network to mine?

I know that I will have to forward OpenVPN ports on their router to the RPi, I'm just not sure how to do the routing and what mode to setup OpenVPN for LAN to LAN.

I suspect that each of their computers will need a second route entry (to make the RPi act as a gateway) but, I'm not sure this is true.

Not sure I can do better than the doc's for openvpn.
https://docs.openvpn.net/connecting/...ned-in-detail/

Basics are two systems running openvpn.
Open and forward ports on router.
Make and maintain some way to track IP changes maybe with dynamic dns program.
The tunnel is a phrase and also a way to think of it if it is working correctly. One stream is in a pipe to the other without outside access. One pi to another will be piped.
In one instance you can use the pipe without disturbing the normal traffic. So that this remote is like a local computer. The other way is full pipe of traffic to your system.
Some versions of security may not easily forward over wan.

Many routers offer some means to vpn also.
