using switch to share internet connection

I just configured a computer to be a dhcp server and use ip-masquerading. it is connected to the cable modem. I have a dss-16+ switch (d-link) which is connected to the second networking card on the above mentioned computer. I would like to get a second computer to receive an ip address via dhcp from the first computer through the switch. i do not have any crossover cable. can i use a switch to do this? i followed the instructions from the gentoo home router howto. is there anything else i need to set up? do i need to do anything for the client computer other than telling it to configure eth0 using dhcp?

thanks,
jrtaylor

Sure, you can share the connection through the Linux router by connecting everything to a switch or hub. There shouldn't be any configuration required at the client end (that, after all, is the point of using DHCP, right?). The server end can be a little more complex. Read, learn, read, learn, repeat until t works. Come back here with any more specific questions. Good luck.

Solved

SOLVED: I got it to work. All I had to do was switch the cables to different ports on the switch. I got the switch for free, and I guess some of the ports being broken was the reason why...

Thanks anyway,
