Using rsync for local server backup. Some issues.
I'm trying to set up a script that allows me to synchronize all of the critical data on our network to the server, then backup the server to another server. There are various operating systems on our network. We have everything from Windows NT4 to Windows 2000 and XP Professional. There are a couple workstations, one running Redhat Enterprise Linux and another running Fedora Core 1. The main server that backs up all the data from the network is on Suse 9.1 Pro, and the server to back that server up is on Windows XP Pro.
What I have managed to so far is, using rsync and samba, I have been able to synchronize all the data I needed onto the server from various other workstations by using the following:
rsync -vrtl /source /destination
The source is usually the samba mount and the destination is usually a directory dedicated for synchronized backups.
However, the issue I'm having now is when it comes to synchronizing the main server to our backup server. Using the same method, the source is local and the destination is a samba share from a Windows XP box.
Data will copy over there, but after a period of time, I will get the following error:
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (12556149 bytes received so far) [generator]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(359)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (28528 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(359)
Why would I be getting this error, and what options may be available to remedy this issue?
