Using Red Hat Linux as a router


I have RedHat 7.2

Using Red Hat Linux as a router so i have microsoft 98 machines as client and i like to rotue threw linux machine so can u help me how to do so

Depends what you mean by "router".

What you probably want to do is to set up an IP masquerade so that all the other computers can access the Internet via your single Internet access point connected to the redhat box.

To do this, you'll need to read and understand the IP masquerade HOWTO.

www.iptables.org have all the manuals
I'd go for iptables instead of ipchains

And I wouldn't. iptables has some nasty problem that, to me, indicate serious underlying flaws.

For example, try using it in conjunction with ip aliasing and policy based routing.

? i'm not sure Mart. if you are right it, then its worth considering ipchains. I need to get more info on that, because I use aliasing and ipv6 tunnels, but no problems so far

Ipchains is easier to configure. So for a first time it's better. It has enought features for smaller networks (like in tarak's case).
