Using mobile phone as modem for laptop

Hi,
I have been trying to use my HTC Hero phone data package for browsing the web from my laptop with no success.
The steps I have taken so far ( based on googling the query and reading the wiki )
1. Installed USB RNDIS driver for SynCE from the AUR
2. Brought the interface up ( the interface is named usb0 on my system, not rndis0 )
3. ran the command dhcpcd usb0

And then it broadcasts for a lease and then times out.
Any suggestions, please
What am I doing wrong?

Hello samsom,

I have once used my Samsung mobile as a modem. On the phone one has to choose that it should work as a modem instead as a mass-storage-device.

if its GPRS/EDGE connection via usb, then do this:

Install wvdial

run as root or sudo

Code:

wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

then edit /etc/wvdial.conf with your isp's settings(dial no., username etc)

dial
