Using dial-up and DSL on Mandrake 8.1
I have a Compaq laptop that runs Win 98 and Mandrake 8.1. It wasn't easy getting the winmodem to work with 8.1 but I was able to do so. I don't want to mess up the configuration. At home I have DSL and at work dial-up service. I would like to be able to use 8.1 to access both dial-up (at work) and DSL (at home). Can I do so? How do I configure 8.1 to do so? Are there any potential problems or conflicts? I can't find anything on this anywhere.

The easiest way may be to use the "ifup ~~~" command.
In the network hardware configuration, the modem needs to be added as ppp0, and the DSL as whatever interface you use to connect with.
With this, you can select whichever service to connect with "ifup ~~~"
Regards,
Peter

What do the "~~~" refer to in "ifup ~~~"? Where would I find the network hardware configuration? I use kppp to connect to the internet. How do I "ifup ~~~" in kppp? Could you fill in some of the details a newbie might need to understand this?
Thanks!
