users of VSFTPD can't chmod files they uploaded

Hello everybody
I setup a new VSFTPD service in LAN, and found that
I can upload everything I want, but I can't change my file's privilege
ftp>chmod 660 fs_ax.rar
550 Permission denied

Any expert out here ?
Thanks in advance

Have you messed with the chmod_enable setting in your vsftpd.conf file? That is normally set to yes, which allows users to chmod files. However, if your users are coming in as anonymous, they don't have the privilege of using chmod. You can also force uploaded files to a particular permission level through using the file_open_mode settings. Have a look through the vsftpd man page as that covers a lot of different options you have for setting permissions.

I've got pretty much the same problem ... I have setup a smf forum and it needs ftp access to install mods when user information is entered it comes back with 550 un-able to change directory
pretty sure that is pretains to not being able to set permissions
I logged into ftp though ftp software and wasn't able to change permissions on any folders either
kinda getting frustrated looked though tons of reading material regarding this problem but didn't find any answers
running vsftpd on fedora 4
I have chmod_enable=YES and just in case I added
virtual_use_local_privs=YES
but I'm logging in ftp with same user login as on server (I assume that would make me a local user on ftp)
I put local_unmask=077 but don't understand exactly what that does
I put file_open_mode=0777 I think i understand that one
as you can probably tell I'm new to all this and your help would
be sooooooooo apreaciated!

Welcome to LQ!

I'd suggest that you start a new thread on this rather than dig up a three year old one. You'll get a better response.
