Post Users connect to a server through telnet - after random time they get disconnected

I have a Red Hat Server with an ERP application. In order to work with it users connect to it through VPN with telnet. After random time they get disconnected and they block the program they were using - someone has to kill the process. What can I do to stop this from happening?

Users connect with a terminal application called Anita -they use this because they need to print information from the server on a local printer and anita can do this -it sends the information from cat command directly to a local printer- Do you know any other application that can do this?

Thank you.

ps: first post .. be gentle

Can't give you specific informations, because i don't know the tools you and your clients are using. However, TCP sockets have a timeout, but could be configured as keep - alive, which disables this timeout. Your VPN may also have a timeout, ie. a max session timeout or idle time.

I only understood that anita is a terminal program which is used by the client. He needs this to make hardcopies of the terminal output on a printer on his side. The ERP application is accessed by this anita via a VPN connection. The ERP application is installed on an Red Hat Server. Is this correct?

hi traene,

yes .. you understood perfectly about anita and the printing system.

i managed to change the tcp_keep_alive_time on the server ... and now even if they get disconnected they don't block a programm for more than 60 seconds... i will check the vpn timeout
