usb networking - SB4200 cale modem red hat 9
cant connect to usb cable modem, tried network configurator only activates my eth0 device, not my 'ppp0' device. I have looked at the modules.conf - didnt see my device, listed and was further confused, i am only a newbie linux monk.
any helpful tips would be excellent, how to detemine if i have the capability to use my cable modem under this kernel 2.4.?.
i have definitely left a load of important stuff out, of this post i apologise in adv.

my distro : red hat 9, think its beta 1.?
the the usbcore, can it be shown in the network configurator or usbview, because i do see the sb4200 cable modem, but not sure how to make eth0
collect IP ADD's from the cable modem. i keep on gettin usb adsl-start (script i think!) fails on some line no:
i will try yr method out, i am only a beginner so it may take some time to even try it out, thnxs very much 4 all yr help in adv.

thanks ugenn yr help has paid div's dude, change my eth0 device name from 8139 to CDCEther saved the file and didnt even need to bring the netwerk up.
there was no sign of it werkin until i went to my XXterm, where i ping'd the name sever [isp]
ADD and that was al good, tried bbc.co.uk and that found hits.
nearly had an orgasm dude when the browser went to red hat home pages.
good lokkin out dude and thnxs for yr help, i am going to post the fix to forums, hopefully
it may help others.

no worries. glad to see it's working for you. just another thing to note, on the newer 2.6 kernels, CDCEther has been replaced by usbnet, so you might want to point that out if you're going to post on other forums.
