USB modem (Alcatel Speedtouch)

Redhat 9, Kernel 2.4.20-18.9

No problem installing a Efficient Speedstream 5360. Because this modem was supplied by Sympatico and I want to get rid of them I purchased a Alcatel Speedtouch USB. No problem to install it on XP but I can't make it work under Linux. 5 days working on it and still not working. I am getting confused and frustrated.

My question is: if my Speedstream 5360 was working, what else I REALLY need to install the SpeedTouch USB? I assume that most of the "stuff" should already be there (PPPOe, etc.) because my other modem was working.

Thanks but I already went through all that. The microcode downloads to the modem. The modem get sync from the provider.
Using the "doctor" I get the following errors:

Sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0> <magic 0x5993cb517>]

This will repeat n times until it gives up. I can't figure out where is the communication failing. I double and triple check the config files. And using a Speedtream 5360 (and an internet card!) I managed to have everything up and running in a matter of minutes.

Now I am trying to understand what part of the whole process is exclusive to USB.

Alcatel Speedtouch USB is not supported by eciadsl.

I managed to run my speedtouch 330 with RH 9.0 with the script u can find at www.sourceforge.net.
Download the Speedtouch Configuration script, unpack it and run it.
It's simple and, MOST OF ALL, the only one that works.
You'll find that the modem rus even faster on Linux that on Windows.
Let me know if it works also for you.

Bye alex
