upgrading samba
Hi Guys,
Next week i am planning on a samba upgrade. I am currently using version 2.2.7 and am moving to 3.0.4, currently running redhat 9 and supporting about 100 users. What steps should i take (i would like to keep current config) in order to do this, below is what i was considering.
1. backup current config files
2. uninstall samba-2.2.7 rpm
3. install samba-3.0.4 rpm
4. copy config files to relevant directory
is this the correct procedure? what happens with swat when installing the new version? does the samba-swat-2.2.7 rpm need to be uninstalled?
Any help would be appreciated...
Cheers

I dont think you need to remove the RPM first... you can just do rpm -Uvh and it will update the package you specify to the newer version. Of course for a cleaner hard drive, removing the old package may be better, but in my experience, removing the old package first is always ugly and usually gives me more problems than usual.
Can't really advise about swat... I've never used it.

have a look on the samba.org site for the docs for 3 - there's a chapter on migrating from 2 to 3 - suggest you read it cos there are quite a few smb.conf changes that may affect you if you're using commands no longer supported.
