updating ethernet driver

I downloaded the latest driver for my ethernet card (Realtek RTL8169), but I can't seem to update it. The instructions say to type: make clean modules, but when I do I get this:

make -C src/ clean
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/aknippenberg/Desktop/r1000/src'
rm -f *.o *.ko *~ core* .dep* .*.d .*.cmd *.mod.c *.a *.s .*.flags
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/aknippenberg/Desktop/r1000/src'
make -C src/ modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/aknippenberg/Desktop/r1000/src'
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.13-15.8-smp/build SUBDIRS=/home/aknippenberg/Desktop/r1000/src modules
make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.13-15.8-obj/i386/smp'
make[2]: *** No rule to make target `modules'. Stop.
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.13-15.8-obj/i386/smp'
make[1]: *** [modules] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/aknippenberg/Desktop/r1000/src'
make: *** [modules] Error 2

How do I fix this?

Works for me!

Try 'make clean && make modules'

Did you try my suggestion?
Can you post a link to the directions?
Is this a patch that you downloaded?
If so, did you patch the kernel properly?
Can you give _any_ information about what you've done?
