Uninstalling Samba help?

Hi all,

I would like to uninstall Samba. I ran "rpm -e samba" and this is the error message I get:

samba = 2.2.5 is need by (installed) samba-swat-2.2.5-10

What does this mean, and how can I complete my uninstall of samba? Thanks a million!

try rpm -ef samba* (f = force )
samba-swat is a config tool for samba en rpm looks at rpm dependency
see that smb service is stopped

Samba uninstall

I tried that and I got the same message. The samba daemons are stopped. Hmmm... Any other thoughts?

you can do this
rpm -e --nodeps samba
or
find / -name samba* -exec rm {} \;
but this will screw up rmp database
it will find any file named samba or beginning with

Samba

How will it screw up the rpm database? Will it damage the system in any way? Will it affect any of the other services? What if I ever want to reinstall Samba, will that be a problem? Please let me know. Thanks a million!

Um...

*blink*

It means that it doesn't want you to un-install samba because something else relies upon it.

Given that you're getting rid of samba you might aswell get rid of SWAT aswell (samba configuration tool via a web browser I believe).

My advice would be to remove samba-swat first, resolve the dependency, and then remove samba. You won't need/use samba-swat *anyway* - since you're removing samba, and it'll just take up space and cause conflicts if you *do* put samba back (with a later version) later.

rpm -e samba-swat
rpm -e samba

Slick.
