unable to track FTP connections in ip_conntrack

Hi,

Recently I've recompiled kernel (2.4.32) on my Debian 3.1 box and included FTP tracking option into the kernel, but now when lan users connect to a remote ftp I don't see any RELATED session state in my /proc/net/ip_conntrack file. What did I do wrong?
Can somebody give me a hint?
