unable to set ipv6 address to aliased interface

Typed following hoping to set an ipv6 address to eth0:1
-----------------------------------------------------------
sudo ifconfig eth0:1 inet netmask 255.255.255.0 169.254.100.103 up
sudo ifconfig eth0 inet6 add fdd7:9a84:1ed0::3/64
sudo ifconfig eth0:1 inet6 add fdd7:9a84:1ed0::103/64

But I see that fdd7:9a84:1ed0::103 is set as secondary ip to eth0 instead of setting it to eth0:1
-------------------------------------------------------------
ifconfig

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:56:2A:24:1A
