Unable to resolve names

Hi I am unable to resolve computer name of my windows(xp and 98) network machines using my linux (mandrake 9) box. I can see ip's and all shares on the Win machines.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

man hosts

That's the right direction, if I understand your question correctly.

If you want to resolve your computer names via DNS through linux, then this howto will come in handy too.

/etc/hosts is a static way of mapping IPs to hostnames and vice versa.
