Hi all,
I've just registered but I've been here from time to time looking for occasional answers.
I'm a little frustrated because it looks like this should be working, but it ain't.....
I'm (attempting
) to set up a Compaq DL380 server to use as an internal webserver at work. Initially, I tried to install Ubuntu 6.06 LTS as it seemed a great choice, but the initial bootup choked after installation.
Now I've installed SUSE 10.1 and everything looks great, except the networking.
This server has two nics, the native and an add-on PCI card. I'm plugged into the native. The install picked up the native and card and is configured as eth0 - native, and eth1 and eth2 as the card and they are not configured at this time; only the native is configured. SUSE is reporting MAC addresses for all three ports so I know they are functioning.
The network (which is my home while I experiment on this beast):
*This is static, I have DHCP turned off.*
And - SUSE Firewall turned off.
Embarq DSL router plugged into a Linksys unmanaged ethernet switch. Router is the default gateway - Address: 192.168.1.1
Compaq Deskpro Win2KPro PC - Address: 192.168.1.2
HP 7210 MF Inkjet: Off
HP E800 Netserver (Win2kPro): Off
DL380 server - Address: 192.168.1.3
Here's the deal: From the Deskpro, I can ping the DL380. From the DL380 I can ping the Deskpro. From the Deskpro I can ping the DSL router (192.168.1.1). From the DL380, ping to the DSL router fails
I do have the gateway configured on eth0 and netstat -r output shows this. Ping to 127.0.0.1 on the DL380 is good as well.
So, things are working internally but not getting to the gateway....Obviously the Internet is working 'cause I'm typing this on the Deskpro....
I ain't typing all the console outputs from the DL380....If I want to create a shared folder on the DL380 from my HP Netserver, do I need to install SAMBA so I can then copy and paste any output from the Linux console to help resolve this?
