Unable to install Network Printer in KDE (URI, Port 9100...nothing worked)!

I’ve been trying to get a network printer using the Add Printer Wizard in KDE, but no luck. Using both the URI (Network printer w/IPP) and port 9100 (Network TCP) results in a “No Printer found at the address/port” message. If I use port 631 I have no problems setting up the printer, but naturally this ends up botching everything and even the machine to which the printer is connected now isn’t able to print anything. The Remote CUPS server option in the Add Printer Wizard is not much help either.

Eventually I turned to the CUPS browser-based interface (http://localhost:631) and enabled the `Share published printers connected to this system’ option. Last time I enabled this option, work sent to the printer would be printed out twice, but this was probably because two machines were sharing the same hostname, both had the `share published printers’ option on, yadda, yadda, yadda, mistakes galore.

Anyway, the thing is, the KDE wizard didn’t seem to work without me diving into CUPS. What gives? Has anyone been able to set up a network printer using just the KDE wizard? Why can’t it detect the remote printer at port 9100 as the howtos (http://www.mepis.org/olddocs/setting...work-printing/) say it should?

Thanks.

Tried the KDE wizard before but is quirky to me. I just use cups to do it all.
Post what you place in each section as you create the printer in cups.
Also what is the remote printer connected to.

Thanks Brian1. But I have no problems setting up the printer in CUPS. The problem is setting it up with the KDE wizard. I think I just have to figure our which port to use (i.e., other than 9100). Perhaps doing a netstat on the machine to which the printer is directly connected might offer some clues...
