Unable to connect to TightVNC on Mandrake 10

I have installed TightVNC server on Mandrake and ran the "vncserver" command. I also saw that vncserver is listening on port 5801 and 5901. I also open up the firewall to allow everything.

However, I couldn't connect from VNC viewer. I know I have connection to the Mandrake machine because I am able to ping it.

Also, I ran the server from root.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

how do you know that the server is actually running? what command are you running o the viewer side? make sure you are specifying the server instance number e.g. localhost:1 not just localhost. please provide full console outpu for both commands, and ensure that "ps" reports that vncserver is running. there whouls also be a vncserver log available for inspection in /home/you/.vnc/hostname-1.log or similar

ps -A should show that at least one instance of Xvnc is running. Also, did you run vncpasswd first? How far did the connection get, and what did the error say if you got one?

I did a ps -A and saw xvnc running.

I also looked at the log file and saw the following:
listening for VNC connections on TCP port 5901
listening for HTTP connections on TCP port 5801

I use Windows VNC viewer to connect. I tried the following:
IPaddress:5901
IPaddress:1
IPaddress

The error message I got is "Failed to Connect".

Please help.
