Unable to connect to Internet any more

I get this message

Polling for DHCP server on interface eth0:
No carrier detected on eth0. Reducing DHCP timeout to 10 seconds.

The cable is plugged in and it works fine under Windows so I know there is nothing wrong with the cable or the port. It's an onboard Nvidia on an Nforce MB. I started having trouble when I went to Slackware 11 I just upgraded to Slackware 12 and it will not work at all. Any ideas on where the problem could be?

I recently ran into the same issue after upgrading Mepis32 6.5. I was online and fully functional after installing a fresh copy of Mepis32 and then did a mass update to whatever files/software that was deemed "upgradeable" in Synaptic. After that... all network was lost and I have no idea how to fix it. KNetworkManager is still set to automatically obtain an IP. I think an update to the kernal or possibly even KNetworkManager may be the issue. My only plan of action, for now, is to reload the original media and install updates one-by-one till I find the culprit.

My bad I have the the cable plugged into eth1 which seems to confuse Slackware. I grabbed a copy of ubuntu and it worked fine when I booted it up. A quick look at the ifconfig and boy did I feel dumb. I still don't know what was wrong with Slack 11 but I bet it was the same issue. I still want to leave the cable in eth1 so I need to fix the network config so it works right
