Ubuntu desktop 10.10 network interface "deleted"

I have a 1ru computer running ubuntu 10.10 desktop. it has 3 ethernet interfaces that i use for testing on three separate networks. a friend "deleted" one of the interfaces from the gui. i can manually assign ip's, but it won't get a dhcp address any more.

i can static assign using ifconfig or
/etc/network/interfaces

is there anyplace else to check the settings so the gui will work for my coworkers?
