Ubuntu and Network Card Problems

Hi

I'm currently using Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn as a file server, but recently it has become extremely slow.

I have checked my internet connection and everything seems fine, so I decided to change the network card to an Intel Pro/1000.

I've read that this card is supported by Ubuntu Linux, and possibly should be auto-detected without the need to install drivers/modules. Is this correct? If so, why does it not show up when I search for all devices?

lspci only outputs Intel Corporation bah blah...Unknown Device

All help would be welcome

Hi wiggst3r, Welcome to lq. Could we see that output from lspci? Also helpful would be the following.
Code:

sudo lsmod
sudo ifconfig -a
sudo route -n

Good luck. ;-)
