i'm dual booting windows 8.1/ubuntu 14.04 on a hp pavilion g6-1d98x and my enable wi-fi button is greyed out. i've had this problem on every linux i've installed don't know if its a driver problem or what please help i love linux but its hard to use it with a laptop if you have to be plugged into a ethernet cable all the time. i've tried restoring the bios defaults and toggling the switch, as well as rfkill unblock all.https://www.dropbox.com/s/w4bc0b4iy6...-info.txt?dl=0

It is likely a driver issue; do you have wireless connectivity? If you don't, here are two things to try:
1. In Ubuntu, go to the Control Center and look for something called "Additional Drivers" or some such name. In earlier versions of Ubuntu, it was a stand-alone item under Control Center-->Hardware. In later versions, it is a tab in the Software and Updates item. Click it. 2. Open a terminal and run the command lspci and let us know what type of wireless card you have. |
i installed a kernal for it and that seemed to solve the problem
