Not to make things even weirder but.... I just checked my active server that's running same Ubuntu 10.04.4 and it lists same kernels when I run

$ dpkg --list | grep linux-image
ii linux-image-2.6.32-38-generic 2.6.32-38.83 Linux kernel image for version 2.6.32 on x86
ii linux-image-generic 2.6.32.38.44 Generic Linux kernel image

This one I have yet patched or updates. So no idea why same kernal can run on same server with no issues.

Hi...

That is strange but I came across page which might help you to avoid having to go the USB route.

If, by some chance, the kernel wasn't upgraded (which I don't think was the case but I could be wrong,) you can always try going up. Found this page here, which also includes the kernels here.

Unfortunately, this is an area I don't know a whole lot about so my assistance will be limited.

Regards...

I found a new error message not sure if you have seen this or not.

When I try to bring up ETH0 I get this error

/bin/sh: cannot open /etc/iptables.rules: No such file
Failed to bring up eth0

When I run dpkg –l | grep iptables I do show entry
ii iptables 1.4.4-2ubuntu2

Have you ever come across this?
