two routers, one network

i have found a tutorial on how to connect two linksys wrt54g routers to the same network through WDS. i was wondering if the ethernet ports will work on both routers, or will they only work on the router which is connected to the modem?

what do you want to do with this setup ?..just want to use ports or something else ?...I think you should try to connect lan port of first to the wan port of second ..and connect other clients to remaining ports of first and the second router ,be sure to enable dhcp and NAT ..

I'm not sure what software you are using, but with DD-WRT and other firmware I have used, the ports on both routers are available for use. So yes you can connect via CAT 5 to the switchports.

thanks javaroast, that was the answer i was looking for. i am currently running dd-wrt on my router, and am about to purchase a second router and do the same. i just have multiple desktops in my house which need to be connected by cat5 due to wireless adapter connectivity issues. that is the reason i wanted to know if the 4 ports would work on both routers.

this is a link to the instructions i will use to connect the two routers to my network.
