Two NICs both show up as Device eth0

I just built a new Redhat9 box and am trying to get two ethernet cards installed. Both are autodetected, but in the Network Configuration window in the Hardware tab, the both are listed as Device eth0. First, here's the motherboard and cards I'm using:

Motherboard: Asus P4P800
Card 1: RealTek 8139B
Card 2: Linksys LNE100TX

(It should be noted that the P4P800 board comes with a 3Com 3c2000 onboard, but I was unable to configure that one properly, and gave up. It is currently disabled in the bios.)

The cards are recognized as RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ and Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 model NC100, respectively.

If I try to edit one of them and change it's configuration to use eth1, the next time I reboot, it rediscovers that card as eth0, and I have three ethernet cards listed under Network=>Hardware (two eth0 and one eth1).

Each card works properly by itself, and when both are installed, I can get one card working fully at a time.

I have tried moving the cards to different PCI slots, and nothing changes.

I am using the kernel 2.4.20-9-smp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what exactly you're asking. The Linsys card is a LNE100TX v5, if that's what you're asking.

i was asking what is written on the netcards chip

c7wilson 09-18-2003 12:43 PM

The text on the chip:

Linksys
LNE100TX Version 4.1
LNE110TX Version 4.1

0125WDAHK22833.1

(the version 5 that I metioned in my last post came from the text on the card.)
