two network devices for increased transfer rate???

Hi there,

I have not tried this, and I am only wondering about the result.

Let's say that I have a PC/Laptop with two network devices: an ethernet and a wireless. Can I connect both of the to the same network (if this network allows both connection) to increase the transfer rate between the PC/Laptop and the server???

Cheers

It's called network bridging and works if both systems support it. Have fun.

Hi there,

I thought network bridging was the process of connecting two network card, so network traffic can go from one to the other. Like in the case of a dhcp server that will bridge the network from the Internet network to the internal network.

What I am asking is: can I connect to network devices to the same dhcp server, from the same machine, hoping to improve or increase the transfer rate???

Cheers

This should help:

http://www.linuxfoundation.org/colla...orking/bonding

And you're correct in your observation that bridging isn't the solution you need.

It does give information on what I was asking. I also noted that it is not straight forward to just plug the two devices and hope to gain transfer speed.

Cheers

Some very few high end nics support that feature. The rules of tcp/ip tend to deny dual nic's like that. Shiva used to do stuff like that and the Intel pro nics support it. Some Sun nics did too. Maybe HP's and IBM's stuff would for sure.

For the most part you have other issues. Your laptop is the weak link. The processor would suffer checksum calculations and the backplane would not support much over 100M transfer anyway.
