two ethernet ports - static ip and dhcp

I have a machine with two ethernet ports, eth0 and eth1.

I need to connect to two different networks - but not at the same time. One network uses static ip, the other DHCP.

Is it possible to set one port to have a static ip and the other to have dhcp.

Then I just choose the networking type by plugging the ethernet cable into the appropriate port.

This is possible. But please post which distribution you're using since the way of configuration depends on this.
A better solution may be using wicd, this utility manages various network-connections automaticaly (when once properly configured).
