Turning a XP/XP network configuartion into a Redhat/XP Network
 

I'm currently running a small network between 2 windowsxp computers (using internet connection sharing).
The setup is this:

Gateway computer has 2 NIC cards.
First Card: ("proxy") - obtains IP, etc. automatically (DHCP).
Second card:
IP - 192.168.0.1
Subnet. Mask - 255.255.255.0

I'm going out from the second card into a "network switch" which is in between the serving computer and the second one..

Second computer -
IP - 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.0.1


I can share internet between both PCs without a problem (i'm on Cable).


----Here is the Linux related problem/question---

I installed Redhat 8.0 on the serving computer. I want to set Redhat up to serve internet to the second PC (without having to change settings on that computer).

I've configured both network cards *exactly* as i have them set in Windows but i cannot get the second pc online.

I've installed Firestarter and see that i am getting pings from the second computer so they are definitely seeing each other.

Any ideas?

(i've searched through this and other forums but am having a hard time finding my solution. Seems that older versions of Redhat have different commands or others are using Routers, etc...
I'm also very very new to Linux (and pretty new to networking also).

It sounds like you need to enable masquerading on the serving machine. I'm not familiar with Firestarter, but look for something mentioning masquerading or NAT and enable it on the ISP facing interface

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much info! (didnt think Linux would be this "complicated" as compared to windows).
But this is what i signed on for, right? :D

i'm going through now and hopefully by tonight, i'll have the LAN going. (thing thats making it hard right now is that there are others users relying on the internet connection. I have to wait till they're gone or in bed before i switch to Redhat).
