Tunnelling yahoo messenger through SSH

If I want to use SSH to tunnel my Yahoo Messenger chat sessions as below:

Laptop --> SSH --> SSHd on Linux box --> Router --> Yahoo

Do I also need to have my router set to forward requests from Yahoo back to the Linux machine? I'm guessing the answer may be "Yes", wanted to check with one of the networking gurus here first ;). I seem to be able to connect TO Yahoo right now, but I don't think I'm getting the responses back at the laptop. I assume that if I set Messenger (on the laptop) to use something like "localhost:5050", have an ssh local tunnelling port on my laptop set to "{messenger IP}:5050", then I'd have to make sure my router forwards port 5050 to the Linux machine?

Thanks in advance,
