I am trying to setup a print server for a brother hl1440 that is connected to my fc5 box. My roomate, the xp box, and I share an internet connection thru a router. I am downstream on his router.
I have set-up both samba and swat. I have no idea of what settings should be or if I need configure printer sharing with samba or swat. From Mozilla I can type
http://localhost:901, enter root for user and root's password and am kicked to the swat server.
I click on the printer icon and have no clue as to where to go from there.
The basic question is his xp box talking to my printer directly or is his xp box talking to my printer thru my linux box?
The first issue that needs to be resolved is, am I using samba or swat to set up printer sharing?
The second question would be is how does my printer need to be set-up? It is already set-up as shared. Do I need to define how it is shared?
The third question would be does my printer need to have a network card?
Fourth question would be my brother is ethernet upgradable. Would an ethernet card make printer sharing easier? I have done a memory upgrade. My brother is maxed at 34 megs of memory.
